Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. For thousands of years, the festival has been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous rice wrapped to form a pyramid using bamboo or reed leaves) and racing dragon boats.

The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers and lakes. This regatta commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

Qu was a minister of the State of Chu situated in present-day Hunan and Hubei provinces, during the Warring States Period (475-221BC). He was upright, loyal and highly esteemed for his wise counsel that brought peace and prosperity to the state. However, when a dishonest and corrupt prince vilified Qu, he was disgraced and dismissed from office. Realizing that the country was now in the hands of evil and corrupt officials, Qu grabbed a large stone and leapt into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month. Nearby fishermen rushed over to try and save him but were unable to even recover his body. Thereafter, the state declined and was eventually conquered by the State of Qin.

The people of Chu who mourned the death of Qu threw rice into the river to feed his ghost every year on the fifth day of the fifth month. But one year, the spirit of Qu appeared and told the mourners that a huge reptile in the river had stolen the rice. The spirit then advised them to wrap the rice in silk and bind it with five different-colored threads before tossing it into the river.

During the Duanwu Festival, a glutinous rice pudding called zong zi is eaten to symbolize the rice offerings to Qu. Ingredients such as beans, lotus seeds, chestnuts, pork fat and the golden yolk of a salted duck egg are often added to the glutinous rice. The pudding is then wrapped with bamboo leaves, bound with a kind of raffia and boiled in salt water for hours.

The dragon-boat races symbolize the many attempts to rescue and recover Qu's body. A typical dragon boat ranges from 50-100 feet in length, with a beam of about 5.5 feet, accommodating two paddlers seated side by side.

A wooden dragon head is attached at the bow, and a dragon tail at the stern. A banner hoisted on a pole is also fastened at the stern and the hull is decorated with red, green and blue scales edged in gold. In the center of the boat is a canopied shrine behind which the drummers, gong beaters and cymbal players are seated to set the pace for the paddlers. There are also men positioned at the bow to set off firecrackers, toss rice into the water and pretend to be looking for Qu. All of the noise and pageantry creates an atmosphere of gaiety and excitement for the participants and spectators alike. The races are held among different clans, villages and organizations, and the winners are awarded medals, banners, jugs of wine and festive meals.

5^th June, invited by Jilin Highway Administration Bureau, Guangdong ESUN Heavy Industry held “Asphalt Pavement Maintenance Technology Exchange Conference” in Jilin Province. Representatives and experts from Jilin Highway Group, Transportation Bureau, Municipal system, Transport Institute and Transport designing institute were invited. Athena Niu, Esun’s General Manage introduced ESUN’s road maintenance technology through the live demonstration. Demonstration included the repair of potholes, alligator crack, and other surface defects that plague their asphalt highway by our infrared asphalt repair technology (Asphalt Heaters).

In recent year, more and more people realize the importance of road maintenance and they want convenient, low cost and effective maintenance equipments, this is also what ESUN focus on. We aim to improve our products like AsphaltHeater, Crack Router and Crack Sealing Machine to meet the customers’ need.

2012，ESUN’s General Manager Assistant Cherry Zou, and R&D Engineer Mr. He took part in the Guangdong highway administration science and technology project review meeting. The project we cooperated with Dongguan Highway Administration Bureau, “Research of the Application of Ultra-thin Sealing Material in Ordinary Arterial Highway (the asphalt pavement)”, is Listed as 2012 Science and Technology Project by Guangdong Highway Administration Bureau. Esun has achieved different kinds of awards like patent of invention, patent of utility model, Appearance patent and the awards of high and new tech enterprises.

----Esun visits Zhongshan Children's Welfare Institution

Zhongshan, who is named after a great figure in Chinese history Sun Yat-sen, is a well known City for its beautiful living environment and charity industry.

At the beginning of this year, Esun got news for Zhongshan Children's Welfare Institution that, there is shortage of baby supplies. Words spread within the company, in a few days, we collected over CNY 9,000 of donation.

15 staffs represented ESUN visited the children in Zhongshan Children's Welfare Institution with all the donations and our love. 

“It was an extraordinary experience, they are angels.” said our R&D Manager, Michael Xiao, “There were many tears and hugs. The caretakers give these kids all the attention they can and treat them like their own children.”

Marketing Manager Ting agreed, “It is so sad that when I got to know most of the children here they don’t know who their parents are, but I also feel happy for them because they get to learn how to love and to be loved here. It was very emotional to visit these kids and now we know how lucky we are.”

Since the day ESUN is found, we follow the steps of Amy Ni, Esun’s founder, involved ourselves into the social welfare. Esun donate to build Hope Primary Schools in China, so that more children in poor regions are able to go to school; we were helping the people who were suffering from floods and earthquake; and we financial support a Tsinghua student to finish his college. We are doing these, because there is a belief in our mind, “Gratitude is double happiness because it blesses both the giver and the recipient.”

Anti-skid pavement case

Kaili City, located in the eastern part of Guizhou Province. 76% of the population is minority. This is one of the largest Anti-skid pavement projects in Guizhou municipal system. Kaili City as the capital of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, she’s the political, economic and cultural center. We are proud to take part in the administrative centre project. Anti-skid pavement is surrounding the administration center square, with a total area of 7000 m², like a huge red carpet.

Micro Surfacing Project in Zhongshan City

105 National Highway throughout Guangzhou, Panyu, Shunde, Zhongshan and Zhuhai, is one of the major thoroughfares in Zhongshan. The 27 kilometers Zhongshan section opened traffic in 1993, with a high traffic volume of 80,000vehicles per day. Some serious problems arise after its 10-year service life, traffic jam, cracks, ruts and pothole, which reduce the safety and drive experience.

 

105 National Highway – before Micro Surfacing

With the support of Zhongshan Highway Bureau and Dongsheng Highway Maintenance Center, Guangdong ESUN Heavy Industry took part in the 105 National Highway repair project with our Micro Surfacing technology. Micro-Surfacing is a polymer modified cold-mix paving system that can remedy a broad range of problems on today's streets, highways, and airfields. It can increase skid resistance, color contrast, surface restoration, and service life to Expressway. Such projects are often reopened to traffic within an hour.

May, the beginning of hot summer in Zhongshan, our professional operators were working outdoor under 34℃, repeating these processes: Partly repair – Clean the surface – Set the guide line(to make sure the Paving truck go straight) - Pave the micro surfacing material - Manual repair the local defects – Open traffic, for the best construction quality.

News from South Africa

May 19^th, Mr. Jan and Ms. Chau visited us on a business trip to China and brought us good news and information about the road conditions in South Africa. Mr. Jan said South Africa has 7200Km of National Routes, and altogether a network of 65000Km of roads. And some of the roads are in poor condition especially the country roads. Overall, the main road diseases are cracks, potholes and rough surface. Deaths from road accidents are roughly twice as high in South Africa as they are globally. Road maintenance is in great need in South Africa. Moreover, the South Africa government pays more attention to environment protection these days; we recommended some solutions for his situation, Mr. Jan shows his interest in our products like Pavement Patcher, Asphalt Distributor, LED Moving Sign and our up coming product Chip Sealer.

This is a good opportunity for us to develop our new market. We both had a fruitful talk at the end, for next step, Mr. Jan will show our company and products to more people in South Africa. We sincerely hope that our technology will bring the South Africa people safety and better road condition.

May 16^th -19^th , Esun took part the global event XJICE which was held in Xinjiang Province, China.
